Electric Detonators

The success and safety of explosives work depends largely on the quality of the explosives and detonators that are used. Orica detonators have a very good reputation throughout the world for reliability and safety. Excellent quality and state-of-the-art technology during the manufacturing of detonators results from more than a century of experience.

System Overview

U-type detonators

U-type detonators used as standard outside of firedamp-endangered mining. As is the case for all Orica detonators, they are electrostatically safe.

U-type detonators are manufactured as

  • Instantaneous detonators
  • 25 ms short-period detonators with delay numbers of 1-20 and delay numbers of 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 56, 64, 72, 80
  • 100 ms long-period detonators with delay numbers of 1-20
  • 250 ms long-period detonators with delay numbers of 1-18, 20, 22, 24

HU-type detonators

HU-type detonators are the safest electric detonators in terms of all electrical premature ignition dangers (thunderstorm electricity, static electricity, stray currents) and are – therefore – especially suitable for tunnel construction in areas with frequent thunderstorm formation and for use in working locations with a risk of stray currents.
